Videos for the Veekend

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

After navigating through the depths of the internet during the week (and the quagmire that is youtube), you are bound to find a handful of interesting material. Here are a couple of gems that you might like:

As covered before, Amsterdam Acoustics is one of my favorite newly discovered video sites on the web. It’s like Black Cab Sessions only with beautiful Dutch scenery added to the mix. American act Rue Royale, who is widely more popular across the pond than stateside, performed a great stripped down version of “Blame” for them a while back:

Chicago hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco put out another mixtape this past November. One of the tracks features him masterfully rapping over Radioheads “National Anthem”.

Ben Gibbard has been known to cover a couple of artists in his time. This time, the Death Cab frontman decides to put his spin on Bjork’s “Joga”.

Finally, SanFran based Yours Truly put out a great video capturing a recent Fuck Buttons performance.

Fever Ray (Karin Dreijer from The Knife) // If I Had a Heart + Remix

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Two years removed from my favorite album of 2006, Karin Dreijer (half of The Knife) has put out a self-titled solo album under the moniker Fever Ray. As excited as I am about hearing new material from her, I can’t say that her first single If I Had a Heart bowled me over. The song certainly creeps along, but the build-up and eventual climax left me a little unfulfilled. The video to the single, however, is AMAZING. It got me thinking that maybe the song fits better as part of a soundtrack to a movie than an LP. Regardless, the Fuck Buttons did a great job remixing the song adding in their patented fuzz and distortion with the throbbing bass line taking the song to new dynamic heights. You can check out both tracks below:
