To celebrate the handful of sunny days we&#8217;ve had this past month (my standard for declaring a season change is pretty damn low), I put this mix together while boxing up my <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_affective_disorder" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_affective_disorder?referer=');">SAD lamp</a> and dusting off my sunglasses. Ah spring: summer&#8217;s warm-up act.</p>
<p>You can download the <a href="http://rapidshare.com/files/357235994/Groovvve_Bloom.zip" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/rapidshare.com/files/357235994/Groovvve_Bloom.zip?referer=');">hour-long mix here (92.5Mb)</a>. <p>Guess I missed the boat on last week&#8217;s announcement by <a href="http://lefserecords.com/?p=628" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/lefserecords.com/?p=628&amp;referer=');">Lefse Records</a>, but it seems that <a href="http://www.myspace.com/girlssanfran" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.myspace.com/girlssanfran?referer=');">Girls</a> guitarist Ryan Lynch&#8217;s new project <a href="http://www.myspace.com/dominantlegsmusic" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.myspace.com/dominantlegsmusic?referer=');">Dominant Legs</a> can finally update their myspace page and remove the word &#8220;unsigned&#8221;. Home to critic darlings <a href="http://gorillavsbear.blogspot.com/2009/12/gorilla-vs-bears-albums-of-2009.html" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/gorillavsbear.blogspot.com/2009/12/gorilla-vs-bears-albums-of-2009.html?referer=');">Neon Indian</a> and <a href="http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/11727-he-was-worse-than-the-needle-he-gave-you/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/11727-he-was-worse-than-the-needle-he-gave-you/?referer=');">The Delta Mirror</a> as well as starting up the sister label <a href="http://www.waagarecords.com/" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.waagarecords.com/?referer=');">Waaga Records</a> earlier this year, Lefse is certainly gaining territory fast &#8212; and with the Dominant Legs signing it looks like they are gearing up for a label-of-the-year run for &#8217;10.</p>
<p>Posting a series of demos this past October, the one that caught my eye most is the track &#8220;Clawing Out At the Walls&#8221;. With quivering vocals provided by Lynch over a repetitive tropical-tinged guitar line and laid-back bongo drumming, the song almost makes you forget it&#8217;s the dead of winter outside and it&#8217;s freaking cold in your apartment. Almost&#8230; Although the good time feel is present with the track, I wouldn&#8217;t consider it in the same &#8220;beach realm&#8221; as acts like <a href="http://www.myspace.com/realestate" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.myspace.com/realestate?referer=');">Real Estate</a> as Lynch&#8217;s choice of chords and harmonies have a more dusky &#8212; more mysterious &#8212; tone to it.</p>
<p>You can check out the track below and, if you&#8217;re interested, mosey on over to <a href="http://www.myspace.com/dominantlegsmusic" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.myspace.com/dominantlegsmusic?referer=');">their myspace page</a> to dive head first into some other demos:</p>
